| Description | PART 1:"Why conventional wisdom may lead you astray: the importance of leadership in crisis" by Florian Pollner, Associate Principal, Mc Kinsey&Company.
The first part of the discussion will focus on key McKinsey research from the last economic downturn (2002-2003) and shows how top performing companies actively invested in their leadership capabilities to achieve superior through-cycle performance. The discussion also includes several case studies from leading Asian organizations that have worked with McKinsey to put these principles into action.

Profile of the speakers
Florian Pollner is an Associate Principal leading the Singapore hub of McKinsey's Centre for Asian Leadership (MCAL). As a co-founder and member of the leadership team of the Centre, he is working with Asian and multinational companies on increasing their leadership performance, on turning talent management into a sustainable strategic advantage, and institutionalizing their ability to systematically attract, develop and retain superior talent.
His specific expertise and interests are in the areas of leadership succession, of helping senior leaders transitioning in the top leadership positions in their companies , and of effectively developing large numbers of emerging leaders. He is passionate about coaching senior leaders to help them improve their leadership performance in a fast-changing business environment. Florian is particularly familiar with the talent and leadership context in the high-growth, talent-constrained economies of India and SE Asia as well as the more mature economies of Western Europe.
Florian holds a joint MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He previously obtained a MSc in Communication Systems from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.
Having lived and worked in multiple European countries and the United States, Florian has moved with his family to Singapore in 2006, working across India and SE Asia.
Philippe van den Berch is Vice President HR and Communication with Total, Refining and Marketing Asia-Pacific Branch. This branch operates some 35 affiliates in 19 countries and employ 3000 staff. He is graduated in Business and Marketing from University of Bordeaux. He has been working his entire career in the oil industry in different professions such as supply, shipping, coal, petrochemicals and retail network. He started in Human Resources after the merger of PetroFina with Total in 1999.
He has been living and working in Belgium, in France and in Singapore since 2007. |
