Profile of the speakers:
Henri Ghesquiere
Mr Ghesquiere is a Visiting Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore and Managing Director of SingExcel Consulting Pte Ltd which he founded in 2006.
He served on the staff of the International Monetary Fund during 1978-2005 and was Director of the IMF-Singapore Regional Training Institute in 2003-2005.
At the IMF, he was closely involved as an economist, mission head, and senior resident representative with macroeconomic lending programs and growth-oriented stabilization policies in 26 countries. Assignments included Brazil, Venezuela, Algeria, Egypt, Ukraine, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Henri Ghesquiere holds degrees in humanities and economics from the University of Leuven, Belgium and earned his Ph. D. from Yale University in 1979. During 1971-73 he taught economics in the Philippines. Among his publications are books on development challenges facing Southeast Asia (1976) and “Singapore's Success—Engineering Economic Growth (2006). He currently teaches courses on Singapore's development and on applied macroeconomic policy.
Patrick Gyselinck
Patrick Gyselinck was born on 10th June 1953 in Gent (Belgium). He graduated in 1976 as pharmacist from the University Gent, Belgium and obtained a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology in 1982. Patrick spent his entire career in the pharmaceutical area (Quality Control, pharmaceutical development, project & process engineering, production and supply chain) originally with the School of Pharmacy of the Rijksuniversiteit Gent, then GD Searle and eventually Schering Plough. Patrick has worked in Belgium, Switzerland, United States, Puerto Rico, Singapore and is currently responsible for the supply chain activities of Schering Plough in Asia with own manufacturing plants in Singapore, Indonesia, China and Japan and a variety of toll manufacturers in several other Asian countries.
